Hotel Guanaja & Guanaja Dive Center Become Green Fins Members Jun 2026
We are proud to announce that Hotel Guanaja & Guanaja Dive Center have officially joined the Green Fins Digital Membership program, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable diving, marine conservation, and responsible tourism in Guanaja, Honduras.
As a dive operation located within the Bay Islands National Marine Park, we recognize that healthy coral reefs and thriving marine ecosystems are essential not only for diving but also for the future of our island community. Becoming a Green Fins Digital Member is an important step in our ongoing environmental journey and reflects our dedication to reducing the environmental impact of our operations both above and below the water.
What is Green Fins?
Green Fins is the world's leading initiative for environmentally responsible diving and snorkeling. Established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and implemented internationally by The Reef-World Foundation, Green Fins provides practical solutions to help dive and snorkel operators protect coral reefs and marine life through sustainable operating practices.
Green Fins members commit to improving environmental performance by reducing harmful practices, educating staff and guests, and continuously evaluating their impact on the marine environment.
Why is Green Fins Important?
Coral reefs are among the most valuable and fragile ecosystems on Earth. They provide habitat for thousands of marine species, protect coastlines, support fisheries, and drive tourism economies worldwide.
Through Green Fins, dive centers are encouraged to:
Protect marine life from disturbance and harassment.
Promote excellent buoyancy and diving practices.
Eliminate harmful wildlife feeding activities.
Reduce single-use plastics and waste.
Prevent pollution entering the ocean.
Improve energy and water conservation.
Educate divers and snorkelers on responsible reef interactions.
Support long-term marine conservation efforts.
For our guests, Green Fins membership means choosing a dive center that actively works to protect the underwater environment they have come to enjoy.
Green Fins Training for Our Dive Team
We are also proud to announce that all of our Divemasters, Instructors, Snorkel Guides and Hotel Staff have completed the Green Fins Dive Guide e-Course.
This internationally recognized training program equips dive professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to guide divers and snorkelers responsibly while minimizing impacts on coral reefs and marine ecosystems.
The course covers:
Marine conservation principles.
Reef-friendly diving practices.
Responsible diver briefings.
Wildlife interaction guidelines.
Environmental leadership.
Sustainable dive operation practices.
By completing this training, our professional team is better prepared to educate guests, model environmentally responsible behavior, and ensure every dive contributes positively to the protection of Guanaja's marine environment.
Looking Ahead
At Hotel Guanaja & Guanaja Dive Center, sustainability is not a one-time achievement—it is an ongoing commitment.
Our Green Fins membership supports our broader environmental goals and represents another important milestone as we continue working toward the highest standards of dive operations, conservation, and sustainable tourism.
We invite all divers, snorkelers, and ocean lovers visiting Guanaja to join us in protecting the reefs that make this island such a special destination.
Together, we can ensure that future generations experience the same vibrant coral reefs, healthy fish populations, and incredible underwater adventures that we enjoy today.
See you underwater!
